The Mustang GT is a class-A overdrive based on one of the most iconic recording channels: the Neve 1073.
Supercharged with a modified gain control and variable negative feedback, the Mustang GT lets the player control their harmonic content and breakup, allowing for a soaring, searing overdrive typically unattainable by its studio brethren.
In contrast the player can roll down the harmonics for a smooth, classy tone similar to a studio preamp. A JFET front end offers a high impedance input and delivers a healthy signal to the sensitivity control, which provides most of the gain and input level.
The simple layout is inspired by the motor-sports of yesteryear; rugged, effective machines that served their purpose and let their operators perform their best. The design of the Mustang GT is no frills, with a focus on tone.
The custom chassis sports a UV print by pedal artist Nick Smith, and is an homage to the iconic car and warplane that share the Mustang name.
Similar to other Lauren Audio pedals, the internals are stocked with high quality parts. The transistors are BC109C as spec'd in the original Neve documents, and all components are selected to emulate the classic build.
High quality coupling caps, polystyrene filtering/feedback caps, and low noise resistors provide studio quality tone. The internal voltage multiplier supplies the circuit with 24v like the classic rack unit, delivering incredible headroom and dynamic depth.
Connections are handled by Pure-Tone and Cliff jacks, switching is a GØRVA high quality true bypass switch, and controls are Alpha pots with GØRVA metal knobs for rugged use.

The Mustang is maybe the best fuzz I’ve ever played? It does everything I’ve ever wanted a Tone Bender style circuit to do, and the complexities and harmonics just jump out of the amp. The best way I can describe it, as I was trying to do with a friend, is to just say that it sounds interesting, always. I am using it to blast my amp with the gain set more in the fuzz range, but it’s also fantastic as a lower gain drive. I just get those sounds by rolling back the volume knob. Also, it is LOUD, and the magic starts getting more magical when you push the volume past noon, but if you’re using a high-headroom clean amp, you’ve been warned!! And yes, it does the Lennon Revolution thing and will immediately put a smile on your face when you go for The Beatles stuff.
I very much love the sound of a 1073 direct. I’ve been using a JHS crayon to get this sound and bypassing my tone X pedal for that direct tone. I bought this on a whim and I am glad I did. No hate on the JHS crayon I think it’s an awesome pedal. This just does it better. I have spoken.
I haven’t taken this off my board or turned it off since I bought it. Amazing.
Not sure if my expectations were unusually low, but I’ve never had a pedal exceed expectations like this. It kind of blew my mind. Unbelievable sounds across the entire range. I love it!
The Mustang GT can easily become as essential as an always-on compressor. It adds low-end to your signal without losing clarity. Used subtly it can bring a clean amp right to the edge of breakup with a high degree of touch sensitivity left to the player, it's not just an on/off effect. On the more extreme settings you get a really aggressive overdrive bordering on some fuzz qualities thanks to the added low-end.
It's a simple control layout but the versatility is amazing, you could argue the simplicity makes it even more usable since you don't get lost in option paralysis. Would highly recommend the Mustang GT, it's fantastic.
